I’m kinda mixed on it...
I’ve watched every movie (even the Christmas Special from hell), and while it was very much a Star Wars film true and true, that was kinda the problem to me. I expected everything that happened in the film either before walking in or before certain scenes happened. It was rather predictable, and not very surprising.
That being said, the Millenium Falcon stole the show in every scene it was in and my favorite scenes involve the Falcon. It was a damn good film, just too predictable. But maybe that’s because I know Star Wars too well by now.
8.5/10 and would totally see it a second time in theaters.

Thanks to a tornado, i’ve seen the first Falcon-flying-scene 3 times on the big screen.
And that alone was, for me, worth the price of admission.
The other thing that completely sold me on it was the sound design— everything was so pitch-perfect. The sound of the new X-Wings was SO GOOD. The TIE fighters were great. The way they like maxed out the mid levels of Kylo’s voice: great. The sound of Han and Chewie’s explosives when they magnetically clamped? FUCKING PERFECT.
The only scene I really remember from the originals, in the theater, is the AT-AT walking next to the landing platform when Luke lands and talks to Vader.
This one was pretty much everything a billion people could have hoped for, and that’s good enough for me. It was beautiful.

I think it almost had to be that way to kick off a new generation of Star Wars films “done right”. It allows to old and new to tie in really well.

People can assume things from even the most vague descriptions. Just a precautionary consideration.

Plus 1000000 for sound design. It was amazing

I agree completely. I left the theater thinking about A New Hope, it reminded me so much about it that I’m fully expecting the next film to be darker and Empire Strikes Back-like.

DD, Track and Burn
Millennium falcon
X wing
TIE bomber.

I thought it was ok, its better than the previous 3 but it felt over hyped. And the main plot was the same, oh no another death star? We must blow it up.

I think a lot of people are complaining that this movie took too many plot points from Episodes IV and VI, but I think that is inevitable when you’re trying to reboot a series that is, really, 22 years old. Because they’re not rebooting the dreadful prequels, but trying to recapture the fangasm that was Episode IV. And I think they did an admirable job of it. The new leads are excellent, particularly Finn and Rey. We’ve got a believable bad guy in Kylo Ren (though I’m not crazy about the giant Gollum). I’m actually more excited to see where they go with Episode VIII. I’ve always said that the true mark of a great band is their second album. Irvin Kirshner nailed the second album with
Empire Strikes Back
, so far the best film of all. If Rian Johnson can nail Episode VIII, and we can break away from the original trilogy and chart some new courses, we’ll really be off and running. I’m actually more excited about the next movie than I was for
Force Awakens
.

I’d say it was J.J. playing it really safe to try and make sure we see that he understands the old movies, but is going to move forward.

They are trying to cater to the old audienc. On one hand, but trying to stuff in enough action for a newer younger aauduience.I personally liked it a lot.

I think I’ll like to add that, as we were leaving the theatre, my friend and I agreed it was between an 8.5 or 9/10. Not perfect, but very good. Overall worth the 8.50 I paid in admission.

Yeah, this one definitely had the responsibility of getting everyone excited again as well as setting up a new trilogy. The whole point of this one is to introduce new characters, get you to care about the new characters, and create a conflict for the characters to deal with in the next one.

That Falcon flying scene is, without question, the very best thing I have ever seen on a big screen. The turns, the intertia, the speed, the intuition: it is completely perfect.

Why did Han have to die?! It was kinda lame how it happened. Did Han know and didn’t care that his son would kill him? I think harrison ford’s grumpiness and not really caring about playing the character influenced him being killed off.
Why did they tell us from the beginning that we should expect to find Luke why then only show him for like 20 seconds?

I have to see it again because I’ve only seen it once so far and that was in Cinemark XD 3D and this has convinced me I’m done with 3D. It was so hard to focus on what I wanted to and not the primary point of focus. I want to be able to take the whole image in and really absorb what the falcon is doing. That is the biggest scene I’m looking forward to watching again in 2D.

I honestly was alright with Han dying, but not the way he did there. That was just not done well in my eyes. I was expecting a Butch Cassidy standoff near the end and going out with a bang.
I think they were trying to set him up for the next film where he’ll probably be more prominent.

and the only way to blow it up was another tight squeeze with a ship and flying out in an explosion.

I only wanted to see 2D the first time, because that’s how it was shot. I’m sure, though, that there was a difference between the two theaters I saw it in the second time. I still want to see the IMAX 3D version, just because.
I’m glad I saw it 2D first.

Mixed is a good reaction.
The Falcon scenes on Jakku were great, though I could have slapped Finn for taking the lower turret when they were planning on staying low. However, when the Falcon was “landed” (read: Crashed) on Starkiller, she should have been broken, so that, in a way, she goes with her captain. Then there could have been some excitement as our now-stranded heroes have to steal a ship, like Kylo’s shuttle, which happens to have Vader’s destroyed helmet, and gives the Resistance some more clues about who they’re facing, and makes him more upset about their besting him.
Also, Rey (why the hell are so many SW names 3-letters? Poe, Rey, Obi, Wan, Ben, Qui, Gon, Jar, Han, etc.; better than Padme, I suppose) and her fight(s) with Kylo Ben were great. The audience’s reaction in my theater were veeeeery much against Kylo Forcing the saber to himself.

Daily Falcon (built-in game board, yeeeeeah).
Track X-Wing (those atmo battle scenes kicked ass, and made me want to dust off my X-Wing vs. TIE CD-ROMs).
Burn bomber (if it doesn’t on its own).

Yeah I wanted to see it in 2D first as well because the 3D was done in post but the closest 70mm screen to me is three hours away. I wanted to see the biggest screen that was closest to me and that was Cinemark XD. Unfortunately the XD screen was only showing it in 3D. I’ll just go to the local matinee for $7 next time.

Worth every penny, then.
Hey, weird question (this may be tired, drunk me coming up with wild ideas), but are you available to meet up next week? Because I’m very tempted to try and drive the 924 (though it may end up being the Bimmer) up for a little meet-and-drive, if you’re into that. If not meet and driver, we could just hang out and you could show me around your town and I can check out the 944 and stuff or whatever. I’ve decided that my New Years resolution is to get out more and meet new people, and you’ve always been as pretty cool guy (the front-engine, RWD Porsche connection is strong) A couple of Oppos can attest to me not being a serial killer, so you don’t have to worry about that either.
![]() 12/31/2015 at 01:11 |

You’re more than welcome to drive up! I don’t see any reason why. I have the next week off as well. I can introduce you to some local Oppos as well! I need to meet new people as well so you’re more than welcome too! Just let me know when.

“But maybe that’s because I know Star Wars too well by now.”
Or maybe that’s because they practically re-shot Ep. 4 for the millenial generation.

But who are Rey’s parents tho???!!?!!!!!!???

I think Snoke is actually a regular size evil motherfucker. The giant evil Gollum asshole is actually a hologram of him just blown up. Didn’t that happen in the prequels, Palpatine had a big hologram?
![]() 12/31/2015 at 02:25 |

I think I know the answer to that one too, if this new series of films takes heavily from expanded universe.

The bit that got me was Kylo’s lightsaber.
In the rest of the films they sound a bit high-pitched and weedy.
Kylo's sounds MEAN. Really powerful thrum when it's open. Not like a fluorescent light, but like something powerful and electric that's shorting against itself the whole time.

Screw the haters. It was great. Especially how crackly it was.

I don’t really have a preference per say. And I haven’t got anything planned for next week yet, so any day that works best for you, come on up! But I’ll go ahead and say I like Tuesday!
